Regulators must deal with dangers of 'fracking'

Regulators must deal with dangers of 'fracking'

This concern about 'fracking' applies to Donegal Leitrim Fermanagh areas also where salmon rivers and streams are under threat from 'fracking'. The Drowes river, example, would be affected.

The choice is between jobs and money on the one hand and environment on the other. People are suspicious and anxious about the lack of information and by the fact that 'fracking' licences were issued during the final days of the last government so the current lot will try to evade responsibility.

Will 'fracking' bring prosperity in recessionary times to a high unemployment/emigration area or will it cause irreparable industrial damage? I don't know and I won't make up my mind till I find out more. Meanwhile it's important for us to find out what's going on in our region and inform ourselves before it's too late to stop any potential damage.

The photos of anti-fracking materials shown here are from the display by No Fracking Ireland activists at the Peak during the opening of Eurosurf 11. (an unofficial display, not connected with Eurosurf or Irish Surf Association) [Activists = nice, well spoken young people who explained the issues to me.] This  morning's Irish Times blog link on fracking reminded me to raise the fracking issue here.
