UPDATE Fri 22 June 2012 - 3pm

KEVIN CAVEY ON ROSSNOWLAGH BEACH

Beach rescue exam was today and among the surfers doing the test was Ireland's original prophet of surfing, Kevin Cavey, who spread the gospel of surf round the Irish coast away back in those heady 1960s. It was Kevin who persuaded Mrs B that the Sandhouse Hotel needed 2 surf boards and organised delivery of those very first boards to Rossnowlagh.

He has taken up surf instructing in recent years and so goes on inspiring Irish surfers and surfing. Watch out for his book on the history of Irish surfing which will be available sometime soon.

PS(Surf's come up since this morning, 2 foot right now and choppy with blustery north northwesterly cross/onshore)
