Below, a dramatic landscape change has happened over the last 2 weeks. Much of the spruce/pine woodslands in the Friary grounds have been cut down or thinned out as the 40+ year old maturing trees were over-crowded and sometimes falling down in windy weather. They will be replaced by native Irish trees to create a more natural habitat for wild life. The whole operation will happen in 4 phases over a 10 year period. For the moment, the newly opened up views are attractive and the scent of freshly cut timber adds to the enjoyment of a walk past the woods.

Below, the larger of the 2 eucalyptus trees seems to have fallen down spontaneously but its companion tree still stands, along with the decidious trees that will now have a chance to spread their branches.
