Walkabout
Following complaints about no walkabout pics for a long time, I set out for this morning for a rainy Coolmore daffodil walkabout but found the daffodils fairly trashed by last week's storms. However there are still a few left and there are also whins, willows and assorted puddles.
Anne, how are the daffs blooming up yonder in the Rocky Mountains?
The new neighbours at Coolmore House have been draining and clearing land, revealing this beautiful mossy birch and flooded drain.
Above, this odd flower is called butterbur. Along with willow it is offers early nectar and pollen to bees. A sure sign that a bee keeper has lived nearby - in this case Pat Slevin, an old white moustached farmer, who had his beehives close by, about 60 years ago. Note his sally garden by the stream and his house now asbestos roofed but thatched when Pat lived there. The willows did double duty - nectar and pollen for the bees and scallops for pinning down the thatch.
It took 2 storms to knock over this bit of concrete wall.
Finally, another puddle with gaslights, more whins and a bunch of battered daffodils
