12.09 pm Sunday 20 March 2011 The Lowest Tide of the Year

Technically speaking, the lowest tide in 20 years happened at 1.09 today. However the wind driven wave surge has made the low tide look much like other springtime spring tides. Note below the Connaughtman Rock on view - it's usually out of sight under the wave that breaks there.

Above, some things never change. Winkle pickers collecting winkles for the Paris gourmet market.

7.25am Sunday 20 March 2011

There's a good swell that should be 2 foot or more but it's chopped and flattened a bit by a gusty little light south southwesterly cross shore breeze. The wind is due to go southwesterly onshore shortly which might improve both the swell and the weather.
