Flat sea. Icy cold force 6 north easterly wind is lifting sand and blowing it viciously along the beach.
Roads are clear but water mains are frozen. Council water engineers have to be out, fixing frozen mains but for everyone else it's a good day to sit at home by the fire.

Surf's up! Good clean 1.5 to 2 foot swell smoking in light force 2 offshore south easterly breeze.
Thaw has set in, ice turning to slush, so the beach may be more accessible for a while. Air temperature 1C.

Below, December visitors to Rossnowlagh - the whooper swans that feed at Birra Lough at Durnish, beyond the sand dunes, and sleep in the Erne Estuary near Ballyshannon. I've heard them passing pre-dawn for the past 3 days but this morning they came just as light was breaking.
